For the price I expected it to do more. I did not notice any benefits with this as a pre-shampoo. Ended up giving it away.

This stuff is fabulous. Really restores hair, and makes it shiny and managable.

My stylist recommended this product to me because my scalp was dry and I was also having issues with split ends. I use this product before I shampoo my hair. I usually saturate my hair with the nourishing concentrate and leave it in for about 20-30 mins. I rinse it out and use the sap moss shampoo and conditioner. This product helped my dry scalp and it also left my hair feeling very soft and with a lot of body.

Very bad things have happened to my hair, but the sap moss treatment has literally saved me from lopping it all off. I have thick wavy dirty blonde hair that has been bleached and dyed and highlighted, and dyed over many many times. About 3 years ago, I went to a salon and the woman destroyed my hair. Destroyed it. I won't go into details, but it took another day of the salon trying to "fix it" on the house before the color was even reasonable. After much abuse, my hair felt like tissue paper. I started using the sap moss. I put it in my wet hair and left it in for an hour twice a week, with a cap. It really worked wonders. After the first use my hair felt a little more like hair. Within a month it looked and felt like good hair -- hair without a past.
Can't recommend enough. so sad they are discontinuing... I have stock piled it!

I have had this travel sized treatment for a couple of years and I never liked it. So after reading the reviews here, I used it as a leave in treatment. I still have not noticed a change in my hair. It still feels and looks the same way as before when I shampoo and condition it with other products. Since there isn't a noticeable difference for me, I will not repurchase or recommend this product. At least it didn't have a negative effect on my hair so I'll give it 3 Lippies.
UPDATE: I'm adding a Lippie because this has helped get rid of my dandruff. I apply it to my scalp and leave on a few minutes before shampooing. I have noticed that the flakes don't show up before my next shampoo. Also, this has been DISCONTINUED so I purchased two bottles.

I love Aveda and use nearly all of their products exclusively on my hair. However, this was the one product I didn't really like. I was using it as a pre-shampoo treatment but I just didn't get any results from it even after using it 6 times or so. I had it sitting in my bathroom for over a year...lol and had not used it. Just this past weekend I decided to use it as a leave-in treatment (NEVER thought to use it that way before) after reading that some here say this is how they use the product!
All I can say is WOW WOW WOW! It's an excellent leave in treatment! I used the Damage Remedy Shampoo and Conditioner (that I alternate with their Dry Remedy line weekly)----then I used the sap moss concentrate as a leave in. My hair was and still is to die for!
Since I am AA with long relaxed hair I only wash my hair every 2-3 --and I deep condition and make sure to get as much moisture into my strands with each wash.
I love the Sap Moss Concentrate now..but they have discontinued the line. I have a little more left but will definitely look online to see if I can find more bottles of it...lol

As others have said - pretty useless as a pre-shampoo treatment but phenomenal as a leave-in/styling aid. I like my hair now! Slightly less than a quarter-sized amount for my short, wavy hair before I blow it straight.

Yes this stuff smells vaguely like Pine Sol...but no other conditioner has made my fried hair so soft, shiny and healthy. I use this as a leave-in after the Sap Moss Detangler. The Sap Moss shampoo is okay, but I stick with Shampure. It's cheaper and the bottle's bigger. But anyway....as a pre shampoo treatment this is meh at best. This really should be marketed as a leave-in. I only need a tiny (maybe dime sized) blob. It's kind of a gel-oil hybrid so it's not too greasy and it doesn't leave my hair crunchy like Elixir does. It soaks in really quickly and makes my hair easy to comb and it's so soft and shiny! This works so well it makes the Pine Sol-ish scent bearable to me...luckily the scent doesn't seem to linger on me at least. Definitely worth the $18 I spent since I don't need to use a lot and it works so well!

This is another great product from Aveda. I just converted to this brand. I “fired” my hair after straightening it two weeks ago. My hair was so DRY, above all the highlighted strands! I used Snap today as a pre-shampoo treatment followed by Brilliant shampoo and conditioner (also Aveda), and than I used a little bit as leave-in. Tremendous results: I finally see a little shine and softness after 2 weeks. I am also using Brilliant Universal Cream from Aveda. Now that I discovered Snap, I can use less of the Universal Cream that makes my hair a little greasy if I use too much. Perfect combination that does not weights my hair down. Finally, I feel great again about my hair.
EDIT: I am taking a lippy out, does not work anymore.

I have very dry damaged curly hair that I flat iron often, and I love to use this as both as an overnight leave in (saturate hair heavily, sleep in a shower cap, wash out in the morning) and a styling aid (quarter sized amount worked into curls). It doesn't weigh down my hair at all - my hair is really bouncy (ha!) even if I leave it in overnight, and when I use it as a leave in, it defines my curls without that crunchy feeling. I don't mind the smell as it's very "dirty" but not overpowering at all; I actually like it better than a lot better than the standard manufactured floral scents. The bottle is good as well, with a glue-like cap that twists to open and close - much better than losing the top off something all the time. As always, I wish there was more product, but O have an will continue to buy this.

I tried desperateley to find something comperable to Sap Moss Concentrate by way of drugstore brands, but nothing comes close. I had this a few years back and remember loving what it did for my hair, but since my hair is long and thick, I go through product too fast to spend top dollar. However, I came back to this product after a bad experience with drugstore brands. Boy am I glad I did! Like the previous reviewer said, it works great as a leave-in conditioner for those of us who truly need de-tangling and moisture. While it works as a pre-shampoo treatment, i'm going to save product (and money) by using it as a leave-in. I took of a lippie because they only sell it in one rather small size bottle. I could use a couple liters of this!

I use the entire sap moss line. As a pre-shampoo treatment - eh. As a supplement to your regular conditioner (mixed in with it) - also eh. As a leave-in treatment - amazing! I use about a dime-sized amount of this in my hair before I blowdry and flat iron. The results are amazing. My hair is soft, detangled, and super shiny. I have very coarse, thick, color-treated hair that tends to be quite dry, so I'm impressed with the results this gives as a leave-in. However, it doesn't seem to do much of anything when used as recommended. I noticed no difference at all in my hair when using it as a pre-shampoo treatment. Leave-in is the way to go if you want results. I think Aveda needs to amend their usage directions! Edited 11/16: I've been using this line for about 6 months now and my hair has *never* looked or felt this amazing! It is truly transformed. Normally I have to switch products every couple months because of dryout, but I have no plans to switch off the Sap Moss line. I've finally found my HG!

I'm african american with relaxed hair and I use this as a pre-shampoo for two hrs. without heat, or 45 min. with heat, and my hair ends up being so silky after I flat iron it!!!! For 18 dollars I keep it in my hair for a long time since african american hair craves moisture.

Ingredients: aqueous (water/aqua/eau) extracts/extraits aqueux: cetraria islandica (iceland moss)extract, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, quaternium-80, galactoarabian, ferula galbaniflua (galbanum) resin oil, olibanum, persea gratissima (avocado) oil, hydrolyzed wheat protein, wheat amino acids, hydrolyzed wheat starch, prunus armeniaca (apricot) kernel extract, honey/mel/miel, fragrance (parfum), geraniol, linanool, citranellol, limonene, amyl cinnamal, hydroxyethylcellulose, cetrimonium chloride, guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, glycerin, maltodextrin, polysorbate 20, polyquaternium-10, sorbic acid, phenoxyethanol, chlorphenesin, caramel

I bought this product after looking for a good treatment for dry hair and doing some reasearch and reading many reveiws. Even though I read mixed reviews about this product, I did find that most of the people who were pleased with this product seemed to have hair similar to mine-- thick, thirsty, curly. I also noted that it was not a conditioner, but a nourishing treatment, so to not expect "softness."

This treatment is light brown and looks like maple syrup mixed with water. It actually reminds me of when I once did a maple syrup fast, but that's another story. Anyways, it comes in a small enough bottle, and I was sure that I would use it all up in one go, but I figured if it was good enough, perhaps it would be worth it, and if not, well, only one buy would let me know that.

I also really like the smell of this stuff. It is very therapeutic, and so when it use it as a part of my "spa day" it helps to relax and calm me a bit. I tend to like most of Aveda's frangraces, though, so if you don't, beware that this one is on the stronger side.

I usually run the twist tip of this through my hair all the way through to my scalp, like you would with a mustard bottle, multiple times, first one direction, then the other, like the lattitude and longitude lines on a globe. It comes out of the bottle pretty easy as it is not too runny or too thick like actual sap. I then massage that in and around and squeeze some quarter size dollops in my palm and put it on the ends of my hair all around. Then I wrap it all up with a towel and let it soak in while I do other things like get my shower ready and whatnot. It is very easy to spread through my hair even while my hair is dry (and my hair is bi-racial!), as this stuff has amazing defining and detangling powers. Then I rinse it out in the shower and shampoo twice and condition.

Immediately after this treatment, I notice that every curl on my head is defined and well-formed, no matter how abused I may have been treating my hair through the week. Whenever I use this, I am guaranteed a good shot of two good hair days after. While the visible results don't stay as dramatically apprarent, I do notice that my hair's manageability has improved since using this, and that alone is enough to keep me coming back for more. Less breakage? Less frizz? Less tangles? More definition? I'm in. continued >>

This is ridiculously expensive, but so worth it! My hair has lost the poker-straightness a year after I did my japanese straightening treatment, and can look somewhat wavy and weightless in the roots, which i hate! But after using this treatment, my hair look as though it's been blown dried professionally. It has the bounciness and lustre of a professional treatment. What I like best is that it's not weighing my hair down! The smell 's not as pleasant as other aveda products, but it still smells fresh. Nothing icky.

It seems like a waste to wash out. And i have to use so much that the little bottle is not worth the $$.

i would definitely buy this again. i try to savor it b/c it is $$$. i basically use this as a leave in treatment ever since i permed my fine hair. my hair is now really frizzy, dry, and damaged, due to the bad chemicals. it works to prevent the frizz and makes hair look healthy again. the scent is woodsy but not that annoying unless your real sensitive to certain scents. i am still looking for something as a styling product and have tried many products (john frieda, sally beauty stuff). this works the best so far.

This is the single most amazing hair product I have used. I use it as a treatment with every shampoo, and I also use it as a leave-in on days when I'm letting my thick, naturally wavy hair air dry. As a leave-in it gives soft, frizz-free waves without weighing my hair down at the crown. My long, color treated hair (lifted w/o bleach) has never been in better condition. Worth every penny!

I'm not thrilled with this product but it is ok. It smells terrible to me but leaves my hair soft afterwards. They say it's a weekly treatment but I feel I need to use it everyday. I wish it would have a more lasting effect (I use the gently burts bees shampoos/conditioners).
